About

I began painting as a series of colour experiments. At first, I was interested only in how colours could interact, clash, and transform one another. Without aiming to create recognisable images, I explored what paint itself could do.

I work exclusively with a painting knife. I enjoy the directness of the process and the physical relationship it creates with the paint. Thick layers, blended colours and shifting reflections of light allow each painting to develop through texture as much as through colour.

After spending time experimenting with paint, I found myself drawn to animals. I started painting species that I realised I barely understood. The more I looked at them, the more I became aware of how limited the human perspective can be when trying to understand other forms of life. The list of animals I wanted to paint quickly became longer than I could ever finish.

Rather than aiming for realism, I try to translate my curiosity into colour, texture, and gesture. My paintings are an attempt to look a little longer, to observe more carefully, and to imagine the world from beyond a human point of view.

Alongside painting, I also enjoy photographing the world in black and white. While my paintings are driven by colour, photography allows me to focus on light, form, and atmosphere from a different perspective.

I was born in Istanbul and am currently based in Berlin.

And yes, I never use brushes. They simply take far too long to clean.
